"Wild red deer stag shaking in the rain, January 2007"

A rainy miserable day confronted me (yet again) during my winter break in Scotland. What do you do on a day like this? Well I figured it was better to be out in the field rather than sit at home, but likewise I wanted to stay dry. Time for a quick drive!

I came across this stag and a number of others who were reasonably approachable as long as I sat still in my car and didn't get out. I realised after some time that the deer would shake periodically to dry out their thick coats. I watched this individual for over 30 minutes before he finally relented and shook out the water droplets from his coat.
