PICTURE's OF THE MONTH: JANUARY

ROCK DETAIL
I have found the seashore around Dunnet Bay to be incredibly inspirational- as you walk along you find images right beneath your feet. This is exactly what happened here, I was thinking about something else and suddenly these lines in the rock appeared beneath my feet and the picture appeared before me. I set up my tripod and took the picture without touching anything. Lens 28-135mm

SEASHELLS
This picture was taken on Dunnet Beach as well but unlike the previous image I had to alter the details slightly. I collected a few more of these beautifully coloured shells and spread them amongst the ones that were already there to give the scene a little bit more of a punch. I also made sure all the shells were damp (which wasnt hard in the drizzle!) to ensure that the colours were fully staurated. Tripod and 28-135mm zoom

PENTLAND WAVE
This paticular day I had gone out to shoot seals but unfortunately there were none around so I proceeded out onto a small headland to photograph the waves that were crashing onto the shore. As I was shooting with my tripod fully erected a storm started throwing hail down adding to the atmosphere but then I started to feel static crackle around my head and realised I was beaing charged up for a lightning strike so I legged it but no lightning came. I'm still not sure if I had a lucky escape or not but I'm glad I didn't hang around. Tripod with 300mm lens.

DUNNET BAY
Early on in my time up in Caithness I took the oppurtunity of having a sunny day to go and explore the Dunnet headland. I was amazed to find this tiny isolated cove with a pristine untouched beach hidden from view on the edge of the headland. I was so amazed that I couldnt bring myself to walk across the sand and disturb its perfect surface. I have been back many times since and never seen anyone else there, one of the joys of living in an isolated area. Tripod28-135mm zoom
